Childhood and adolescence

Arthur grew up in the studious home of two Harvard Professors. His parents encouraged him to follow in their footsteps, but allowed him to explore other subjects and pursuits. While Arthur showed an aptitude for history, it was the local airfield that captured his imagination. While modern shuttlecraft were interesting to him, it was the older aircraft that spurred his imagination. One of the pilots took a liking to Arthur and allowed him to ‘unofficially’ take piloting lessons. At the age of ten he soloed for the first time.

His grades in school were average, more from a lack of applying himself than anything else; his thoughts were constantly distracted by flying. Only the threat of losing his flying privileges made him buckle down and improve his grades.

It was at the age of fourteen that he met his Uncle Matt for the first time. A rare visit to Earth, and an impromptu family reunion, would forever change his view of the universe. He listened to his Uncle tell stories about Starfleet, giant space battles, strange creatures and other sentient species. From then on he had one purpose, join Starfleet and see the universe. His parents were less than pleased.

Applying himself to his studies he quickly changed a less than stellar report card to straight A’s and passed his entrance exams to Starfleet Academy with flying colors. It was from that point on that things began to go down hill for him.

Starfleet Academy

At the Academy he initially pursued a course in piloting and CONN operations. However constant comparisons between him and his Uncle caused Arthur to reconsider his choices. His grades began to falter and he soon transferred into the Sciences Department with a concentration in Xenoarchaeology. This pleased his parents to no end, but disappointed many of his teachers at the Academy. As his grades continued to be sub-par he risked expulsion. He began spending more time in the holosuites, flying, than he did on studying for exams. The intervention of the Academy Commandant, at the behest of his Uncle, was all that saved Arthur’s career.
