Personal History:
Jake Allendale is your fairly typical guy, who grew up in a fairly atypical Starfleet household. He wasn't a military brat per say, as the bulk of his childhood was spent growing up in Syracuse, where his father taught at the University. His mother, a doctor in Starfleet, bounced around to several ships and facilities during Jake's life. Because of his parents career's, Jake more or less raised himself. He only saw his mother during shoreleaves and his father for a few hours a day. Despite this, Jake grew up very well adjusted. After graduating high school, Jake took a year to travel the solar system, hoping to figure out what he wanted to do with his life. It was during this time that he spent several weeks at Copernicus Shipyards on Luna with his mother. There he got to really see what went on in a Starfleet sickbay, and he decided that medicine was his calling. Returning to Earth, Jake promptly enrolled in the nursing program at Starfleet's Enlisted Training School. Two years later, he graduated and was posted to the USS Niagra, a New Orleans-class ship stationed along the Klingon border. There he met Jessica Sullivan, a young woman also fresh from the ETS who was serving as the executive officer's yeoman. It was most assuredly not love at first sight. In fact, she despised Jake when they first met. It took two years, but Jake finally got her to go out on a date. That, as they say, was history. Following a year long engagement, the two were married. Because of their careers, the two didn't plan on having children, but in 2365 they were blessed with a daughter, Charlene. Shortly there after, Jessica was transferred along with the Niagra's XO when he was given command of the USS Royal Oak, a Nebula-class ship assigned to the Cardassian frontier. A few weeks later, Jake was able to arrange a transfer as well, and he joined the Royal Oak as Head Nurse. The Allendales life on the Royal Oak was a good one. Charlene was the light of their lives, and Jake made sure to give her all the attention he didn't get as a child. Unfortunately, their ideal life was not to be. In 2374, the Royal Oak, then the flagship of the Third Squadron of the Eighth Fleet, was destroyed when a Jem'Hadar attack ship rammed into it, resulting in a loss of half of the crew. Charlene was staying with Jessica's parents on Io, and was thus spared the immediate agony of her mother's death. Jake only barely made it off the ship alive, having to be carried the last ten meters to the escape pod by the Royal Oak's chief medical officer after a bulkhead collapsed on him. The death of his beloved wife devestated Jake. After collecting Charlene from his in-laws, they returned to Earth to seek comfort with Jake's parents. After a few weeks on leave of absense to grieve, Jake was assigned to McKinley Station. Jessica's death still fresh in his mind, he threw himself into his work as a coping mechanism. There his impressive work ethic caught the eye of the station's chief medical officer, who recommended Jake for Officer Training School. Taking her up on the offer, Jake enrolled, completing the course two years later via subspace. Upon completion, he transferred from Senior Chief Petty Officer to Warrent Officer. After five years watching ships come and go from dock, Jake realized that watching starships return from and go out to the frontier while fixing up minor cuts and scrapes wasn't what he had planned for his life. So, he requested a transfer to the first starship in need of a Head Nurse. Soon enough, he and Charlene found their way to the Ambassador-class USS Swiftsure, stationed near Cardassian space.
